In the quiet corridor of the hospital, Josephine held her pregnancy test form alone, lined up in the hall to get her registered number, and took the elevator to the doctor's office. The bulge of her belly was obvious and it hurt so much since last night, keeping her awake for a whole night.
The elevator stopped on the fourth floor.
As soon as the door opened, an intimate couple walked over, followed by a tall, young man behind them, Josephine was stunned, not expecting to meet Reginald and Aurelia here.
Reginald held his arm around Aurelia's waist, and Aurelia softly leaned onto his chest, looking slender and gentle.
Reginald kissed Aurelia's forehead while walking, his face was extremely tender and sweet. The intimate image was like a poisoned blade that strapped into Josephine's eyes, gouging her heart to a bloody flesh.
When Reginald saw Josephine, a flash of surprise flashed through the bottom of his dark eyes, but it flickered away and was quickly replaced by disgust and disdain.
He walked towards her with Aurelia around his arms and questioned coldly, "Why are you here? Josephine, how dare you follow us?"
Josephine bit her lips tightly, as she almost couldn't resist slapping Reginald on his face. She was so uncomfortable that she couldn't sleep or eat. She came to the hospital alone with her baby for a maternity check. However, Reginald, as the father, didn't care about she and her child at all; instead, he came to kiss another woman in front of her and slandered her!
Josephine took a deep breath to calm herself down, deliberately pushing her belly towards him, and gritted her teeth with a mocking smile, ''What else do you think I can do if I come to the hospital?
And if you are hugging another woman in front of me, aren't you afraid of being criticized and having your reputation ruined?"
"Josephine, it's my fault, please don't blame Reginald."
Aurelia lifted her face from Reginald's arms to explain, but as a result, she couldn't stop coughing as soon as she opened her mouth, and her little face looked more attractive.
Reginald looked anxious as he patted her back, glaring back at Josephine with a warning look, the corner of his mouth curled up in a sneer, "In Breton city, your reputation has already been ruined, and you didn't know how to behave by drugging me to have sex with you and forced me to marry you with the child. Why do I have to fear?"
Every word of Reginald stuck in Josephine's heart, she was so angry that her whole body shook and her breathing almost stopped.
Reginald finished his words and held Aurelia's waist to go upstairs, not wanting to look at Josephine anymore. However, a figure appeared from behind and patted on Josephine's shoulder, saying, "Let me accompany you to do the check."
Josephine was in a daze, looking up, Isaac was standing in front of her, and his voice was gentle, just like his warm and handsome look.
Reginald looked at them, and after seeing Isaac's arm deliberately wrapped around Josephine's shoulder, his eyes suddenly sank, "Isaac, what are you doing?"
Josephine lowered her head in silence; the hand on her knee almost rubbed a hole in her skirt. Reginald's face was even more sullen, his eyes fixed on Josephine's face with cold gaze, as if he wanted to pierce into her body. Isaac blocked him and said, "I am worried about Josephine's health and I cannot let her do the check alone. So if my brother is busy, I'll accompany her instead."
When Isaac said this, he intentionally flicked his contemptuous eyes towards Aurelia, whose face instantly changed. She took a step back, her face quickly changed into a good-natured smile as she looked towards Reginald, "I'll just go by myself, never mind. I don't want to ruin the relationship between you and your brother"
Aurelia's clear and soft face showed a touch of probing as she said this, sweeping across Josephine and Isaac's faces.
Reginald reached out to stop her, his arm naturally hooked around her thin waist, his gaze on her was filled with tenderness. "It doesn't matter, mu brother and I are in a good relationship and Josephine can never affect us. Isaac, when things are done, don't forget to wait for me at the garage. I'm taking Aurelia back to the villa."
They turned and left, leaving only a solemn gaze falling on Josephine, who tilted her head to hold back her overflowing tears. She told herself that she couldn't be vulnerable, and she couldn never be defeated!
In the corridor outside the consulting room, Josephine sat on the seat in daze, Isaac walked over and handed over a glass of warm water, "Not your turn yet?"
Josephine took the glass of water and sighed, "Thank you. But you'd better leave now. If you let somebody see you are accompanying me, they will doubt your relation with me."
Isaac sat beside her and rubbed her hair, saying, "I don't care."
Josephine turned around in silence; she knew that sometimes Isaac was stubborn. And if he made up his mind, nobody could change it, especially the matter about her, he would never stand by.
He was just like a brother to her. The Cooke and Barnes were in a good relationship a long time ago. When she was adopted, Reginald, as the successor of the Barnes family, had to learn business courses every day; while Isaac had a more relaxing childhood. Every time Josephine was bullied by someone, he would stand by her side and protect her.
Until she got married with Reginald and got pregnant, her miserable life was known to everyone in Breton city, only Isaac stood by her side and supported her. He was the only person she could rely on now.
When she thought of what Reginald did last night, she was hurt badly, and the humiliation Reginald and Aurelia had did to her, she would remember that for the rest of her life!
When the nurse called Josephine's name, it was Isaac who helped her get up, and accompanied her to get in.
